Enjoy wandering through the pictorial history of Dragonfly Springs Wetland Sanctuary and see the extraordinary transformation of an unrecognised environmental resource becoming the thriving wetland Dragonfly Springs is today.
Although this is a constructed wetland sanctuary, it replicates the original natural swamp which was an essential environmental necessity to drain and polish storm water as it cascaded down the hill into Whangarei Harbour. The original swamp was lost to human occupation, causing silting and mangrove proliferation, but now, with use of a forebay, four gross pollutant traps, and three sediment ponds, and with the aid of these images we are able to offer experiential education outdoors of a true wetland.
